bass drum & hi-hat exercises

This exercise will help you to develop, control, endurance, speed and power when playing your bassdrum. I suggest you to practice it playing heel down and releasing the beater from the drumhead right after you hit it. Play your Hi-Hat heel down also. Keep your back straight and let your arms hanging losse, and don't create any muscular tension in your legs. The goal here is try to play it as effortless and relaxed as possible. Power and control will come with time, so be patient. Try to practice it at least 15 minutes a day. You can use the same exercise to develop your Hi-hat playing, just play the bassdrum notes with your Hi-hat and the Hi-hat notes with your bassdrum. Set your metronome at 50 BPM, and increase tempo gradually as you get confortable playing it.

Coordination

This exercise will help you to develop coordination and control between your snare and bassdrum, and will give you some level of independence as well. Playing 8 notes with the right hand (or left, if you are left handed) on your hi-hat read the snare and bassdrum notes. Play it slow and relaxed, playing the snare and kick with   the same intensity level.
